Hey fellow TATTOO-JAMMERS!

As some of you may already know, I'm due to release my debut novel through PERMUTED PRESS (http://www.permutedpress.com) in the very near future. It's an apocalyptic-HORROR novel with a tattoo flavour, starring a kick-ass female tattooist.

We will be hosting a very special competition here at TATTOO JAM, where some of you may win either a signed copy the book itself or some DROP DEAD GORGEOUS merchandise, designed and distributed by BITEMARK CLOTHING (http://www.bitemarkclothing.com) and TORTURE COUTURE (http://www.torturecouture.com)

In the mean time, however, I would like to offer ALL of you a SPECIAL SNEAK PREVIEW of the book in a very special TATTOO-HEAVY excerpt. This excerpt, while being one of the novel's chapters, can be enjoyed just as well as a stand-alone tattoo-related story.

So, how do you get your hands on the FREE EXCERPT? Well, I'm making it available as a pdf file - all you have to do to receive such is PM me your e-mail address. I will gladly e-mail you the excerpt as a pdf attachment.

Here's the burb on the book:

While Star, shorn-headed and black-eyed tattooist, began inking her first client of a warm, spring Sunday morning, the world died…

(LITERALLY)

…life, as she knew it, ended… and a new era beckoned.

All across Belfast, the hungover majority lapsed into a deeper sleep than normal. Something changed gear, Mother Nature’s darker side rampant throughout the unholy mess of crashing cars, smoldering televisions and falling aircraft.

DROP DEAD GORGEOUS spits out the story of a shell-shocked group of post-apocalyptic survivors as they search for purpose in a broken-down city. In a world stifled by the very smell of death, they scrape out a new life, fear and desperation giving rise to new tensions and old habits...

… But a new threat, as beautiful as it is deadly, crawls out of life’s wreckage, fuelled only by feral hunger and several shades of chaos…

DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, by Wayne Simmons, will be released through PERMUTED PRESS (www.permutedpress.com) in 2008.

For everyone who has requested a pdf but not received it yet - fear not! I have spotted a possible slight error that may need changed. I'd rather wait until I double check it, before sending anymore pdfs out.

Should have something with you in the next couple of days. Thanks for your interest! cheers2.gif

It'll mainly be available from AMAZON and PLAY and online retailers like that (BARNES AND NOBLE in the states). Some FORBIDDEN PLANET stores will stock it, as well.

Your local book store may not stock it - but you will be able to order it from any book shop, or even your local library, simply by quoting the title/ author and the following code:

ISBN:978-1-934 861-05-9

Alternatively, you might be able to win a special signed copy from the upcoming TATTOO-JAM competition! headbang.gif

Thank-you, Bebop! Real kind of you to say! sign_merci.png

I'm glad people on TJ are digging it - it's difficult to know, yourself, if something you've worked so long at is any cop.

If anyone else would like a sample, please just fire me over a PM with your e-mail address and I'll very gladly e-mail you the pdf.

Cheers, Chris! Jan and you get a BIG shout out in the thanks section for all your tattoo-related help and guidance...

... Just received a preview copy in the post yesterday. I've to pass it on to Jo Harrison in Amsterdam, for blurbing, but it was nice to hold an actual, physical copy of the book.

Just wanted to share with you these very fine DROP DEAD GORGEOUS blurbs by an author called Dave Moody.

Dave's something of a big noise in the horror world and I'd highly recommend you reading ANY of his books. His latest novel, HATERS, has just been picked up by Universal Pictures - read the full story here!!

Anyway, here's some of the lovely things he said about DROP DEAD GORGEOUS:

"Rough, filthy and completely fucking brilliant, Drop Dead Gorgeous will grab you by the bollocks and drag you around post-apocalyptic Belfast until you scream for it to stop.

Even the end of the world – the great leveller – isn’t enough to stop Simmons’ debauched cast from fighting, bickering, binge-drinking, drug-taking and tattooing themselves into oblivion. You’d think an unannounced Armageddon might bring survivors together, but not this lot. Sectarian differences, individual weaknesses and deep-routed character flaws are dragged to the surface as post-apocalyptic Belfast implodes.

Simmons describes the end of the world in all its bloody glory. His writing is brave, distinctive and unflinching; you can almost smell the destruction and decay. With a twisted sense of humour and a eye for the most unpleasant of details, DDG will have you gasping in disbelief and gagging on vomit at the same time! Simmons writes like Nick Hornby on crack.

I loved DDG. It’s a beautifully written trip through hell; a twisted, bastard hybrid of the minds of Romero, Cronenberg and Lynch. The characters, locations and emotions are described in uncomfortable, unflinching detail. Simmons has a gift for picking out the most innocent of details which makes his writing feel deceptively plausible and real. You’re carried along with every horrific twist and turn. And believe me, there are plenty of them!"

I particularly enjoyed the comparison to 'Nick Hornby on crack' headbang.gif lmfao.gif

Thanks! Stay tuned on the thread, or click on my signature to go to the official DROP DEAD GORGEOUS website for all the latest updates!

Here's a pic of Dan Henk (www.danhenk.com) and my good self, shooting the breeze about all things HORROR at the recent Amsterdam Tattoo Convention.

Dan, as you will see from his website, is a tattoo artist who brings his love of zombies and horror to work - and his work is STUNNING! He's agreed to scribble up a blurb for DDG after enjoying a preview copy. He was also able to give me some very helpful constructive criticism about the tattoo side of things in the book which I have made sure to incorporate into the final copy of the book.

Dan's writing his own novel - a sci-fi alien book - he's e-mailed me a segment of such to have a look at.

He's a top bloke and it was a real pleasue to meet him in the flesh after chatting online.

Just another blurb on the preview copy of the book:

"Intriguing novel by a new emerging talent in the horror
genre. It's nice that for once a tattoo artist is actually a main
character, and not a crazed biker or incompetent druggie, but a
cynical yet realistic person. Which, as a tattoo artist, is way
closer to the vast majority of people in the business. I enjoyed Drop
Dead Gorgeous, and I'll definitely look forward to more work from
Wayne Simmons."
